Will My Food Habit Worsen My Acne?

About a decade earlier, consuming too many sweet or oily foods was believed to be the root cause of acne. Doctors dealing with acne treatment at Clinicare now have a far better understanding of why breakouts occur and how they should treat them.

According to a dermatologist, Macrene Alexiades-Armenakas, PhD,  there is some data that suggests particular diets may affect acne. Consuming an excessive amount of dairy products may increase your risk of developing acne. This is because milk, yogurt, and cheese all contain hormones, as per a study that was published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. However, subsequent research has refuted the theory.

Moving forward, more research on the connection between food and acne has revealed that foods that have a high glycemic index, like white bread, waffles, and other carbohydrates, aggravate acne. Here are a few things to take care of. Have a look.

Take care of your skin

  • Wash the affected area twice a day. Instead of soap, use a mild cleaner. Do not scrape vigorously.
  • Alternatively, consider using cleansing wipes. They are convenient and easy to use before discarding, because they contain cleaner already.

Other Tips For Skin

  • Apply only enough topical acne medication to the problematic areas. Avoid using too much.
  • Numerous acne treatments, such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and tretinoin, increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun.
  • Avoid using greasy sunscreen, hair products, or makeup.
  • Avoid squeezing or picking at your pimples.
  • Leave your phone, fingers, and hair off of your face.
  • Shaving can aggravate acne in men and cause skin irritation. Try an electric razor, or handle a blade with extreme caution.

Which further acne treatments are available?

Your doctor may advise the following in addition to oral medication, creams, and lotions:

  • By using a laser or other light-based therapy, blemishes can be treated
  • Chemical peels to get rid of dead skin cells
  • Large cysts that cannot be managed medically must be surgically removed
  • Anti-inflammatory cortisone-infused cyst injections

These procedures can be carried out as an outpatient at the clinic or in the doctor’s office.

For acne therapy, some people turn to natural remedies like tea tree oil or alpha hydroxy acids, which exfoliate dead skin cells and unclog pores but operate more slowly than benzoyl peroxide. The effectiveness and long-term safety of a number of these treatments are little understood. Typically, acne creams and lotions contain a variety of organic substances. Make sure you find out if they are appropriate for you by speaking with your dermatologist.
